Fitting our district’s main street into the new urban development concept of the 18th District.
Üllői Road, which connects Ferihegy Airport with the city centre, spans five districts over 15 km — the 8th, 9th, 10th, as well as the 18th and 19th. This stretch crosses the area of Pestszentlőrinc from east to west over 6 km, making it its most important transport route: in effect, our district’s main street.
Üllői Road is the defining structural axis of Pestszentlőrinc, and its streetscape therefore carries particular weight in how the area is perceived.
Its decisive elements are the ratio between the areas reserved for public transport vehicles (trams, for instance) and those used by pedestrians, together with their surfacing and quality — these are key elements of how public space looks. The presence, or absence, of green areas matters, and so do street lighting and the placement of traffic lights and signs.
The goal
With the renewal of the main street, a more open, more creative and more liveable district should emerge — one that offers a genuine urban experience.
InnoK Tudásmenedzsment Intézet Nonprofit Kft., as a company indirectly owned by the Municipality, is responsible for creating the new urban development concept. Delivery of the development, however, is the responsibility of Városrehabilitáció18 Nonprofit Zrt., operating transparently.
