The research, development, innovation and knowledge management institute behind Budapest’s 18th District — and a workshop that shares knowledge and encourages community-led development.
The Innovation Centre, InnoK, is the research, development, innovation and knowledge management institute behind Budapest’s 18th District, and at the same time a workshop that shares knowledge and encourages community-led development. Our aim is to support the sustainable, community-centred and future-oriented development of the district with professional, research and organisational expertise.
One key area of our work is the joint preparation of the district’s economic development concept, in which professionals, businesses, institutions and local communities shape the direction of the future together. Our activities focus on stimulating the local economy, strengthening cooperation between companies, advancing knowledge and technology transfer, applying knowledge management tools, and supporting innovative and sustainable urban development solutions.
At the centre of our work are data- and knowledge-based decision making, knowledge management, resident engagement, social innovation and development built on cooperation. We carry out research, questionnaire surveys and social analyses, we support the preparation of EU and national funding applications, and we contribute to digital, smart city and climate protection initiatives.
We believe that a more liveable and more competitive 18th District of Budapest can only be built through the active cooperation of residents, the municipality, civil society organisations, professional partners and economic actors. InnoK therefore works on developments that are not only innovative and sustainable, but are also built on genuine participation, social dialogue, knowledge sharing and equal opportunity.
How we work
InnoK’s work rests on the cooperation of four sectors: this is how we connect economic development, social innovation and the strengthening of the common good.
The owner of strategic and professional direction. InnoK works alongside it on preparing concepts and providing the professional groundwork.
Businesses, investors and technology partners — the actors of local economic growth and technology transfer.
Civil society organisations and professional partners, who give developments their social grounding.
The people living in the district, whose experience and opinion are the real measure of any development.
The InnoK ecosystem
InnoK’s work runs on three complementary platforms. Every topic has one primary home — so you never read the same thing three times, and you always find the details where we actually work on them.
Urban, economic and local development: urban rehabilitation, public spaces, infrastructure, economic development, smart city and climate adaptation. Together we create the liveable cities of the future.

If you would like to apply for a citizens’ assembly or want to know about participatory processes, you will find them on Civic Lab.
