On October 11–12, the 18th district took another important step on the path of participatory democracy: the second community meeting took place, where residents developed proposals on the topics of transportation and green spaces, with the support of experts and facilitators.
The goal: to ensure that the opinions of the locals are truly reflected in the development decisions of the district.
Main elements and atmosphere of the day:
The meeting took place in the Chamber of Representatives, jointly organized by InnoK and BP18.
After registration, the participants received a brief briefing on the rules of community cooperation, and then the day started with Small Group Discussions.
The main topic of Saturday was transportation:
• Residents discussed everyday problems and opportunities,
• They modeled local routes in a “transport network planning game”,
• They presented their proposals, which were also voted on.
During the afternoon, the five teams developed local development ideas, and then the participants could decide on the results themselves by voting.
Sunday’s day was based on the themes of green spaces and heat islands.
The community created here based on the experiences of the education day.
Using their own board game, the groups discovered how to consciously develop urban green spaces, create a shadier, cooler urban microclimate, and increase green space comfort.
The weekend ended with a ceremonial closing and a joint “Takeaway message” word cloud, in which everyone expressed in one word what they would take away from the meeting.
The most frequently appearing expressions:
👉 together, community, let’s continue, inspiring, vision, trust, responsibility.
The second community meeting was a milestone not only in terms of proposals, but also in terms of experiences.
The program proved that local decision-making and community knowledge can be connected if we give space to dialogue.
With this event, the 18th district once again set an example for Budapest: the future is worth building together, with the involvement of residents.
